Albania's Rama vows to push on with Kushner-linked luxury resort despite protests 08.06.2026

Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama stated on Monday that the country will proceed with a luxury resort project backed by Jared Kushner, despite widespread protests concerning its environmental impact. Thousands have demonstrated in Tirana and along the southern coast against the development proposed for a protected wetland crucial for flamingos, seals, and sea turtles. Rama, however, remains resolute, asserting that the project, valued at €1.4 billion ($1.6 billion) and potentially reaching up to €5 billion with another project on Sazan Island, will be a source of pride. He defended his mandate to develop the country, dismissing opposition and assuring that environmental assessments will be conducted alongside development. Rama also mentioned that parts of the resort might open before the end of the decade.
