Alex Borg submits PN leadership nomination 03.07.2026

Alex Borg has formally submitted his nomination for the leadership of the Nationalist Party (PN), running uncontested as the sole candidate. The PN confirmed on Wednesday that Borg was the only person to submit a declaration of interest for the post. His election will now be put to a secret vote by the party’s General Council, where he must secure more than 50% of the votes cast to be confirmed as leader. The voting process is set to take place on 15 July, with polls open from 12:30pm to 6pm at PN headquarters in Pietà, and from 12:30pm to 4pm at the party’s Gozo sub-headquarters in Ta’ Sannat. To accommodate council members, early voting will be held on 8 July from 4:30pm to 8pm in Pietà and from 4:30pm to 7pm in Gozo. Additionally, those unable to vote on either day may cast their ballot on 11 July between 9am and 8pm at both locations. The PN Electoral Commission has outlined these arrangements to ensure all eligible members can participate in the leadership vote. Borg’s uncontested nomination sets the stage for a straightforward confirmation process, pending the General Council’s decision.
