Alexandre de Moraes decides to maintain Bolsonaro under house arrest 04.07.2026

Supreme Federal Court (STF) Minister Alexandre de Moraes has decided to extend the house arrest of former President Jair Bolsonaro until July 3, 2026. Bolsonaro will remain under electronic ankle monitor surveillance, with restricted visits and a prohibition on the use of cell phones and social media. The decision was made following Bolsonaro's sentencing to 27 years and 3 months in prison in the coup plot case, and the conclusion of his 90-day temporary house arrest, which began on March 27. Moraes also ordered the suspension of his firearm permit and the seizure of ten pistols and shotguns registered in the former president's name, following the seizure of a weapon from one of his security guards. The defense has 48 hours to surrender the weaponry. Moraes emphasized that failure to comply with the rules will result in immediate return to closed prison regime, though he acknowledged that Bolsonaro did not commit a serious infraction regarding the seizure of the weapon.
