The ANC in KwaZulu-Natal has strongly condemned the murder of eThekwini councillor Sibusiso Khwela, calling it a barbaric and cowardly act that constitutes an attack on democratic institutions. Khwela, the Ward 17 councillor, was shot dead inside his office in Klaarwater, near Mariannhill, on Thursday. According to police spokesperson Colonel Robert Netshiunda, Khwela was in his office with several community members when an unknown man arrived and pretended to need assistance. When the councillor went outside to help, the man drew a firearm and shot him several times, killing him at the scene.
