Animal rescue shelter appeals for volunteers 04.07.2026

Animal Rescue Cyprus (ARC) in Paphos is facing a critical shortage of volunteers and a protracted legal dispute over its land, leading to an urgent appeal for public support. The non-governmental organization, which includes a veterinary clinic and international affiliations, has seen a significant increase in animal intake compared to the previous year, alongside a 90% decline in volunteer numbers. ARC currently shelters approximately 600 dogs, alongside other animals like horses, donkeys, goats, and cats, with dogs requiring particular attention. The ongoing court case regarding the land’s ownership has created uncertainty, although plans for a potential relocation to Ayia Varvara are being considered, with details about governance remaining unclear. ARC emphasizes that animal welfare remains paramount, and their operations must continue despite the challenges.
