Anthropic finds $1.5 million to help Python Foundation improve security 14.01.2026

AI company Anthropic has partnered with the Python Software Foundation (PSF) by providing a $1.5 million investment to enhance security within the Python ecosystem. This funding will specifically target improvements for CPython, the primary Python implementation, and the Python Package Index (PyPI), aiming to protect millions of users from supply-chain attacks. Loren Crary, deputy executive director of the PSF, stated the investment will bolster the foundation's core work and that the developed security measures are expected to be transferable to other open-source package repositories. Anthropic, a user of Python-based tools like PyTorch and offering a Python SDK, has a vested interest in the ecosystem's security. This announcement coincided with Anthropic's expansion of its Labs division to foster experimental AI products.
