Antisemitism Scandal at Lueger Monument 03.07.2026

On Wednesday, as part of a festival hosted by the University of Applied Arts, Jewish artist Alon Ishay carried out a "remodeling" of the Lueger monument in Vienna. He placed "shame" stickers on the monument and applied footprints to the ground using water-soluble spray chalk. The action, in which writer Doron Rabinovici and lecturers from the University of Applied Arts also participated, was ended by approximately 15 police officers. Reports were filed against Ishay and Vice-Rector Gerhild Steinbuch on suspicion of disturbing public order; additionally, a statement of facts regarding suspected severe property damage was submitted to the public prosecutor's office.
