Anwar: Malaysia must ensure energy is secure, affordable, sustainable 04.06.2026

Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim emphasized that Malaysia's energy priorities have shifted from mere production to ensuring security, affordability, and sustainability, especially amidst global supply chain strains like those from the Strait of Hormuz. Speaking at the Energy Transition Conference 2026 on Thursday, June 4, he highlighted the critical role of the Asean Power Grid and the potential of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in accelerating energy transition efforts. Anwar cautioned that AI's rapid advancement must not outpace sustainability goals, while noting Malaysia's attractiveness for data centre investments, particularly in Johor and the Klang Valley. He expressed confidence in Tenaga Nasional Berhad's (TNB) capacity to lead the nation's energy transition and capitalize on AI-driven opportunities.
