Après avoir été opérée à cause d’un AVC, elle se réveille avec l’accent russe : "On me traite comme une immigrée" 20.02.2026

Tara Livingston, a 56-year-old Canadian woman, experienced a life-altering event following an emergency surgery for a stroke in November 2023. Upon waking, she discovered she spoke with a distinct Russian accent, a condition diagnosed as Foreign Accent Syndrome (FAS), an extremely rare neurological disorder caused by brain lesions that alter speech. This unexpected change has profoundly impacted her daily life, leading to misunderstandings and discrimination, with people treating her as an immigrant despite her Canadian identity. The syndrome has forced her to cease professional activities and has caused significant emotional distress, making her feel as though she has lost her identity. Livingston is now undergoing speech therapy for the next two years in an effort to regain her original Canadian accent and her former self.
