Après quatre ans de guerre en Ukraine : face aux réfugiés, l’hospitalité des Européens s’étiole 22.02.2026

Four years after the start of the war in Ukraine, the initial wave of spontaneous hospitality from European nations towards Ukrainian refugees has significantly diminished. While the European Union activated a temporary protection mechanism on March 3, 2022, granting 4.35 million Ukrainians the right to reside, work, and access services, many member states have since tightened their reception conditions and reduced aid. Driven by pressure from right-wing and far-right parties, countries like the Czech Republic, the Netherlands, France, Norway, Hungary, Switzerland, and Germany have implemented measures such as limiting free accommodation, reducing social benefits, and restricting access to housing and healthcare for Ukrainian refugees, actions that have drawn criticism from the United Nations.
