ARD-Interview mit Selenskyj "Ich bin bereit zu einem Treffen mit Putin" 23.02.2026

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, speaking in an ARD interview in Kyiv shortly before the four-year anniversary of the Russian invasion, expressed his readiness for a direct meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin to end the war. He stated that peace would only be achieved when US President Trump and European leaders compel Putin to genuine negotiations and a ceasefire. Zelenskyy criticized Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán for potentially blocking €90 billion in EU financial aid, equating his actions to those of Putin and Belarusian leader Lukashenko. He also urged the EU to advance Ukraine's accession talks, highlighting Ukraine's reform efforts amidst wartime. While thanking Germany for its leading financial support, he expressed hope for a greater German role in post-conflict peace enforcement, similar to France and the UK. Zelenskyy asserted that Russia has not achieved its goal of destroying Ukraine as an independent state and pointed to recent successes, including reclaiming 300 square kilometers in Zaporizhzhia. He also noted the benefit of SpaceX's decision to restrict Starlink internet access to Ukrainian forces, hindering Russian military communication.
