Army veteran accused of sharing military secrets with journalist 09.04.2026

U.S. Army veteran Courtney P. Williams, a former member of the United States Special Operations Command, has been arrested and indicted on April 8 for allegedly sharing top-secret information with a journalist over a period spanning from January 2022 to August 2025. Williams, 40, who held a top-secret security clearance and had daily access to classified information between 2010 and 2016, is accused of violating the Espionage Act by repeatedly transmitting classified national defense information via telephone and text messages. The journalist, who sought information for an article and book about Williams' special military unit, identified themselves as media and later published content attributing specific statements, some containing classified details, to Williams. Williams was arrested by FBI agents on April 7 and is being held without bond pending a detention hearing in Raleigh, North Carolina.
