Artificial Intelligence: AI-generated character to be used in feature film for the first time 07.07.2026

The AI studio Particle 6 plans to release the comedy-drama "Misaligned," in which the artificially generated character Tilly Norwood takes on a leading role in a feature-length film for the first time. The production is conceived as a hybrid project, in which traditional filmmakers work closely with AI specialists. However, the presentation of the dark-haired character at the Zurich Film Festival sparked intense controversy within the industry. Critics such as the actors' union SAG-AFTRA, as well as prominent actors like Emily Blunt, expressed massive concerns regarding ethical viability. Criticism has been leveled at the fact that the AI character is based on the unpaid performances of numerous human actors. While founder Eline van der Velden aims to highlight the technological possibilities of AI, industry representatives fear an existential threat to human actors and a general decline in film quality due to digital imitations.
