As Europe roasts in a heatwave, Asia’s air-con makers grab some cool cash 25.06.2026

As Europe sweats through unprecedented heatwaves, Asian air-conditioner makers are capitalizing on a boom in sales. South Korea's Samsung Electronics reported double-digit sales growth in the first half of 2026 across key markets including Italy, Spain, and France, and expects sustained demand through the peak cooling season. LG Electronics noted that its South Korean production lines have been running at full capacity since April to meet seasonal demand. China's Midea saw soaring orders for its PortaSplit air-conditioner, with sales through German e-commerce channels rising about 37 per cent in May year-on-year, and shipments to Spain and France jumping 108 per cent. The company said second-hand prices for the unit have exceeded the cost of new units due to strong demand.
