Assault allegations against former FPÖ employee: Interior Ministry seeks to deport two suspects 07.07.2026

Following a violent attack on a taxi driver in Leoben, the Austrian Ministry of the Interior is reviewing the deportation of two German citizens. The incident occurred in the context of a festival held by the Wiener Burschenschaft Olympia fraternity. The suspects, Yannick W., Uwe S., and Gernot S., allegedly strangled and kicked the victim, resulting in severe head injuries. Gernot S. was until recently a parliamentary staff member for FPÖ MP Michael Oberlechner, who immediately confirmed the termination of the employee's contract. The Leoben Public Prosecutor's Office has transferred the proceedings to the Vienna Public Prosecutor's Office, as investigations regarding incitement to hatred are already underway against the former employee. The allegations also include violations of the Nazi Prohibition Act (NS-Verbotsgesetz). While the FPÖ officially rejects violence, other factions in the National Council have called for the party to clearly distance itself from the identitarian scene. The Federal Office for Immigration and Asylum is now reviewing the deportation of the German nationals.
