At least 16 people buried following landslide in China 07.07.2026

A devastating landslide in China’s western Gansu province has left at least 16 people buried, according to state broadcaster CCTV. While 17 of the 33 initially trapped individuals have been successfully rescued, search efforts continue under orders from President Xi Jinping. This disaster follows severe thunderstorms in Hubei Province, where eight deaths and one missing person were reported on Monday night. Strong winds reaching 149km/hour hit cities like Huangshi and Ezhou, causing at least 275 injuries by Tuesday morning. Forecasters warn of further torrential rain, with up to 260mm expected in Guangxi, Jiangsu, and Shandong, potentially triggering more landslides. Additionally, the country remains on alert for Super Typhoon Bavi, which is moving across the Pacific toward Taiwan with winds reaching 290km/h, posing a significant threat to various regions across China.
