The African Union Election Observation Mission (AUEOM), led by former Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta, has concluded that Ethiopia's 7th General Election adhered to continental electoral standards, noting improvements in electoral administration, civic participation, and democratic processes. Deployed across eight regions with 73 observers, the mission assessed procedures in line with AU methodology, finding the elections operated within a legal framework aligned with democratic principles. Reforms by the National Election Board of Ethiopia (NEBE), including enhanced voter registration and dispute resolution, were highlighted. Approximately 50.5 million voters, 46% of whom were women, were registered. Despite challenges in Tigray and parts of Oromia and Amhara due to security concerns, polling stations largely opened on time, with professional security presence and strong voter engagement, including priority for vulnerable groups. The mission acknowledged advancements in digital registration and voter education, contributing to a more organized process and broader access, while emphasizing Ethiopia's ongoing democratic evolution.
