'Avengers: Doomsday' directors tell fans to get ready for changes 02.06.2026

Directors Anthony and Joe Russo, along with AGBO partner Donald Mustard, spoke at SXSW London about the evolving film industry and their upcoming project, 'Avengers: Doomsday.' They lauded the success of low-budget horror films like 'Obsession' and 'Backrooms,' highlighting the disruptive impact of Gen Z as both audience and storytellers. The Russos revealed that a creative idea from writer Stephen McFeely reignited their passion for returning to the MCU for 'Avengers: Doomsday,' set for a December release. They emphasized that the film will be a fresh start, akin to "phase zero," with Robert Downey Jr. returning as Dr. Doom. The directors also discussed managing large ensemble casts and defended the viability of various storytelling mediums beyond traditional theatrical releases, advocating for embracing digital platforms and diverse content.
