Azalina urges Johor BN to field young, new faces to pull in youth votes 02.06.2026

Umno Information Chief Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said is urging Barisan Nasional (BN) component parties in Johor to nominate young and new candidates for the upcoming state election, especially in areas with significant youth voter populations. She believes this strategy is crucial to attracting young voters, who now constitute a substantial portion of the electorate, and will also foster the development of future leaders within the party. Azalina, who is also the Pengerang MP, highlighted that approximately 40 percent of voters in her constituency are young. While acknowledging that candidate selection is ultimately up to the state BN leadership and political bureau, she expressed personal hope that incumbent assemblymen Aznan Tamin (Tanjung Surat) and Fauziah Misri (Penawar) would be renominated. She also commented on the dissolution of the Johor State Legislative Assembly, stating that the state government had the right to dissolve it with the consent of the Johor Palace, possibly influenced by positive public support demonstrated at recent events.
