Azerbaijan explores geothermal energy prospects in liberated territories 02.06.2026

Azerbaijan is actively exploring the development of geothermal energy in its liberated territories, particularly in the Kalbajar district, according to SOCAR Vice President Afgan Isayev. Speaking at Baku Energy Week, Isayev highlighted efforts to establish a supportive regulatory framework and tariff mechanisms, with assistance from the Ministry of Energy. The initiative also aims to create incentives for international investors. Geothermal energy development is a component of Azerbaijan's Socio-Economic Development Program through 2030, with SOCAR expressing optimism about harnessing the nation's geothermal potential. Furthermore, SOCAR is keen to participate in international electricity exchange projects, leveraging its experience in Georgia and Türkiye to implement regional energy initiatives efficiently.
