Vor Ende der Friedenspflicht Entscheidende Woche im Tarifstreit bei der Bahn 23.02.2026

This week marks a critical juncture in the wage dispute between Deutsche Bahn and the German Train Drivers' Union (GDL), as they enter their fifth round of negotiations before the expiration of the peace obligation. A successful compromise would avert strikes, a scenario not seen in GDL negotiations since 2018, but failure could lead to renewed industrial action in March. Following an initial offer from Deutsche Bahn, which proposed a total wage increase of 3.8% in two stages plus an additional 2.2% through tariff system adjustments, including a new pay grade requested by the GDL, and a one-time payment of 400 Euros, both sides have reported progress. However, a significant disagreement persists regarding the contract duration, with the employer advocating for 30 months and the GDL insisting on 12 months.
