Bahnstrecke Hamburg-Berlin: Bahn weist Vorwürfe von Ländern wegen Sanierungsverzögerung zurück 18.02.2026

Deutsche Bahn has refuted accusations from five German states regarding delays in the renovation of the Hamburg-Berlin railway line, attributing the setbacks to adverse weather conditions including prolonged frost and snowfall. The railway company stated that the construction schedule was re-evaluated on Monday due to the persistent winter weather, leading to a necessary re-planning process. While Deutsche Bahn aims to catch up on lost time and minimize disruptions, the government leaders of Berlin, Brandenburg, Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Hamburg, and Schleswig-Holstein expressed their dissatisfaction in a letter to DB CEO Evelyn Palla, citing a lack of transparent communication and coordination. They have demanded a new, stable, and reliable timetable by March 13th and insisted that Deutsche Bahn cover all additional costs for replacement transport without burdening states, municipalities, or passengers.
