Bangladesh doubles down on demand to move T20 World Cup matches out of India 14.01.2026

Bangladesh has initiated a standoff with the International Cricket Council (ICC) by demanding that its T20 World Cup matches be moved from India to Sri Lanka, citing security concerns for its players amidst deteriorating diplomatic relations between the two South Asian nations. This demand follows the Board of Control for Cricket in India's (BCCI) decision to remove Bangladeshi fast bowler Mustafizur Rahman from the IPL, a move widely seen as politically motivated due to tensions stemming from the 2024 ousting of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. Despite a video conference on Tuesday between the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) and the ICC, no resolution was reached, with the ICC noting the tournament itinerary's announcement and requesting Bangladesh reconsider its stance, while the BCB reaffirmed its position and commitment to player well-being. The World Cup is scheduled to commence on February 7, with Bangladesh slated to play matches in Kolkata and Mumbai.
