Barbie pop-up in Sydney forced to glue down props after string of thefts 07.07.2026

The Grounds of Alexandria, a popular inner Sydney café, has implemented strict security measures at its new Barbie x Megan Hess pop-up installation following a series of thefts. After unveiling the luxury exhibit last Thursday, the venue reported that more than 10 items were stolen within the first four days. CCTV footage captured various individuals, including adults and young children, brazenly removing merchandise such as toys and fashion accessories from display cases. In response to these repeated incidents, staff have been forced to drill and glue down various props to prevent further loss. Additionally, access to the pink-themed installation is now restricted exclusively to patrons dining at The Grounds venues. NSW Police have confirmed they are investigating the reports of theft. The exhibit is scheduled to remain on display at the Alexandria location until the end of August.
