Hong Kong residents Leo Chan, Lawrence Tsai, and Nigel Yau are among those embracing barefoot running and hiking, sharing its perceived health benefits alongside crucial warnings about potential risks. Chan, a seasoned endurance athlete, transitioned to barefoot running nearly three years ago after observing a shoeless competitor. He emphasizes a gradual conditioning period, starting with short distances and careful location selection, noting Hong Kong's relatively clean and smooth surfaces like those in Happy Valley. Tsai, a movement trainer, advocates for barefoot activities to improve foot sensitivity and coordination, though he cautions it's not suitable for everyone, particularly those with flat feet. Yau, involved in the barefoot shoe industry, primarily practices barefoot hiking for mindful connection with nature. All three stress the importance of adaptation and proper technique to avoid injury.
