„Alarmierende Füllstände“: Bayerns Gasspeicher vor kritischem Tiefstand – Stilllegung beantragt 23.02.2026

German gas storage levels are at a critical low, with Bavaria being a particular concern. Meteorologists are warning of a potential further winter spell in March, raising questions about energy supply security. The Wolfersberg storage facility in Bavaria is currently below five percent capacity, significantly lower than the mandated minimums and previous years' levels. This situation forces Germany to rely on expensive liquefied gas imports, prompting calls from the Green party for transparency and action from the Bavarian government. Industry groups like INES have also warned of structural risks, noting that the current mechanisms may not adequately ensure supply security, especially in colder weather. The low profitability of storing gas due to minimal price differences between summer and winter has led to applications for the decommissioning of the Wolfersberg and Breitbrunn storage facilities.
