BC Ferries adds new surcharge as fuel costs continue to soar 02.06.2026

BC Ferries will implement a temporary 5 percent fuel surcharge effective Tuesday, June 16, 2026, due to sustained increases and volatility in global fuel prices, exacerbated by geopolitical conflict. Dallyn Willis, CFO of BC Ferries, stated that the company has absorbed these rising costs for as long as possible through its fuel deferral account but now requires the surcharge to manage financial pressures responsibly. This measure, authorized by the BC Ferry Commission, will apply to all routes and is intended to be the most balanced approach to mitigating impacts on passengers while addressing the significant operating expense of fuel. The surcharge's duration and potential removal will be contingent on fuel price stabilization or decline.
