BC Lions build temporary 18,500-seat home stadium in Kelowna 04.07.2026

Due to BC Place Stadium being unavailable during FIFA World Cup preparations, the BC Lions have relocated their home games to Kelowna. The city has transformed the Apple Bowl, a community facility with a permanent capacity of 2,300, into a massive 18,500-seat venue for the "Touchdown Kelowna" series. This significant temporary expansion, supported by a $1 million provincial government contribution, involved installing large grandstands over the running track, relocating scoreboards, and adding video screens. The first match on June 27 saw an attendance of 19,108. These games allow the Lions to expand their reach into the Okanagan region while BC Place undergoes necessary turf replacements. Once the CFL regular season matches conclude, all temporary infrastructure, including the grandstands provided by Tower Scaffolding and Events, will be removed to restore the stadium to its original community use.
