Between leaks and 56,000-peso chandeliers: This is how Bellas Artes and Hidalgo reopened on Line 2 07.07.2026

The Head of Government of Mexico City, Clara Brugada, inaugurated the reopening of the Bellas Artes and Hidalgo stations on Metro Line 2. Despite criticism on social media regarding leaks and deficient finishes, the Director of the Metro, Adrián Rubalcaba, defended the 2.2 billion peso investment made in the line. Rubalcaba denied any irregularities in the bidding processes and clarified the cost of the new decoration, noting that the four large chandeliers on the stairs of the Hidalgo station cost 56,000 pesos each, while the smaller lanterns range between 3,000 and 4,000 pesos. The administration emphasized that two-thirds of the total budget was specifically allocated to maintenance work to ensure the functioning of the transportation system.
