Bientôt des Tasers pour les agents de la sûreté de la RATP : une mesure qui interroge voyageurs et syndicats 22.02.2026

An experiment is set to equip hundreds of RATP and SNCF security agents with Tasers, referred to as "intermediate" tools between pepper spray and firearms. Announced by Transport Minister Philippe Tabarot on February 19, 2026, this three-year trial will arm approximately 10% of railway police nationwide, totaling 300 to 400 agents. In Île-de-France, reactions from travelers and unions are mixed. While some see it as a necessary safety enhancement, others express concerns about increased securitization and the potential risks associated with Tasers, particularly for individuals with cardiac conditions. Union perspectives vary, with Force Ouvrière supporting the measure for enhanced safety and non-lethal intervention, while the CGT criticizes it as a security escalation that neglects prevention and could escalate violence. The deployment is expected in the coming weeks.
