Bis zu 10 Meter Schnee: Winter-Wahnsinn in den Alpen – mehrere Ski-Orte von Außenwelt abgeschnitten 20.02.2026

Record-breaking snowfall in the French Alps has triggered hundreds of avalanches, leading to several ski resorts being cut off from the outside world. In Bonneval-sur-Arc, Savoy, a massive avalanche on February 17th buried the RD902 road for 200 meters with snow up to ten meters high, temporarily isolating the village. While this road was cleared by February 19th, subsequent avalanches on the night of February 19th-20th have completely blocked access to Villard-Reculas and Rivier d’Allemont, with alternative routes also closed due to winter conditions. Over the past ten days, more than 141 avalanches have been recorded in the French Alps, and experts warn that avalanche danger remains high despite improving weather, with a potential "worst-case scenario" feared due to school holidays.
