Blije Iraniërs op de Dam: "Na 47 jaar is een dictatuur vermoord" 01.03.2026

On March 1, 2026, Iranians gathered on Dam Square in Amsterdam to celebrate the reported deaths of Ali Khamenei and other leaders in attacks by the United States and Israel. The demonstration, which began around 2:00 PM, saw participants marching towards the Museumplein and the U.S. consulate, carrying Iranian, Dutch, and Israeli flags. Many expressed joy and hope for freedom, with some citing personal relief as LGBTQ+ individuals and anticipating returns to Iran after years of absence. A counter-demonstration also took place, with dozens protesting the attacks and the loss of life, leading to police intervention to maintain distance between the groups. The majority of demonstrators dispersed by 6:00 PM, following a period of increased protests in Amsterdam against Iranian authorities in the preceding month.
