Blue economy needs research, finance, and private sector push — experts 27.05.2026

Experts at the 29th workshop of policymakers, researchers, and private sector leaders, held on Tuesday, May 26, 2026, emphasized that the blue economy's significant growth potential requires enhanced research, active community participation, and robust private sector engagement. Discussions, organized by REPOA in collaboration with Tanzanian ministries and CRDB Bank, highlighted the need for strong institutional frameworks and responsive legal reviews. Key thematic areas included research, stakeholder collaboration across East and Southern Africa, and increased financial support for small-scale entrepreneurs through accessible loans and low-interest credit. Countries like Namibia serve as examples of successful blue economy development driven by research and evidence-based planning, underscoring the necessity of inclusive growth and sustainable resource management for communities dependent on marine and aquatic activities.
