Boa constrictor found in box in Mjölby 07.07.2026

On Sunday, a snake was discovered in a closed box with air holes in a forest in Mjölby, according to the police. The animal is suspected to be a boa constrictor, and the County Administrative Board has taken care of the exotic animal following the incident. This find follows a similar incident in Linköping last week, although that snake was not found in a box and remains missing. Earlier last summer, loose snakes that do not belong to the Swedish fauna were also observed in southern Sweden. The police emphasize that it is illegal to release non-native species into nature, as this can be classified as a violation of the Animal Welfare Act or animal cruelty. The incident underscores the importance of reporting sightings of non-native animals to protect the local ecology.
