During the second heat of the four-man bobsleigh event at the Milan-Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics, the Austrian team's sled overturned, causing a significant delay and concern for the pilot, Jakob Mandlbauer. The incident occurred on Saturday morning, just before the Games' closing ceremony. While Mandlbauer's three teammates, Daniel Bertschler, Sebastian Mitterer, and Daiyehan Nichols-Bardi, were able to exit the sled themselves, Mandlbauer remained on the ground and required extensive medical attention. After being evacuated on a stretcher, the 27-year-old, who was participating in his first Olympics, was transported to the hospital, reportedly conscious and complaining of neck pain, with injuries not believed to be severe.
