Bodies found in 'advanced deterioration' at under-fire trust 25.06.2026

A Human Tissue Authority (HTA) inspection of Queen's Medical Centre (QMC) and City Hospital in Nottingham, carried out in March 2026 but only published this week, found eight bodies in "advanced deterioration" because they had not been transferred to freezers in time due to a lack of freezer space. The regulator also identified critical shortfalls in identity checks, creating a risk of the wrong bodies being released to families. The inspection found three critical, six major and one minor shortfalls, including baby post-mortem examinations conducted in an inadequately ventilated lab with untrained support staff.
