Wildfires across Europe have forced approximately 300,000 people to flee their homes this week, with the situation in France and Spain reaching unprecedented levels. Bordeaux City Council is now considering a total evacuation of the city, which is the sixth largest in France and home to over 1.2 million people. A spokesperson told Sky News that the council is "currently studying scenarios for all possible ways the fire could evolve," including a total evacuation if necessary. The fire in the Gironde region has become extremely virulent and unpredictable, generating its own wind and spreading erratically toward the Bordeaux metropolitan area.
