Brazil's data protection authority has imposed a fine of nearly $30 million on TikTok's parent company, ByteDance, for violating child data privacy laws. The regulatory body ruled that TikTok breached data privacy regulations by collecting and processing personal information from children and teenagers without a valid legal basis or adequate safeguards. This violation occurred across both logged-in accounts and guest browsing sessions, with the regulator estimating that TikTok may have processed the data of at least 8 million minors.
