Swimming South Africa (SSA) and South Africa Water Polo (SAWP) have initiated discussions for a partnership model aimed at unifying the sport after months of public disputes. The proposed framework would see SSA remain the World Aquatics-recognized federation, while SAWP would manage the day-to-day operations and administration of water polo. This collaborative approach, inspired by models in countries like the US, Canada, and Australia, seeks to address perceived administrative shortcomings and enhance athlete development pathways within South Africa. Both organizations have expressed a shared commitment to prioritizing athletes and fostering constructive engagement, with SAWP having gained significant traction and membership since its formation in 2025. The SSA Board will consider the proposal, with SAWP awaiting their feedback.
