Breda Six case must be retried, advises Advocate General of the Supreme Court 07.07.2026

The Advocate General at the Supreme Court has advised that the 'Breda Six' case must be retried. In 1993, a 58-year-old woman was killed in a restaurant in Breda by a wok and strangulation, during which a slot machine was also robbed. In 1995, three men and three women were convicted, but they claimed their confessions were made under duress. New forensic research into the time of death and the presence of DNA from an unknown Southeast Asian man on the victim's clothing has raised new questions. The Advocate General states that the previous ruling by the Court of Appeal in The Hague may have been incorrect due to inaccurate assessments of the time of death. The Supreme Court must decide at the end of this year whether the case should indeed be retried.
