Bürgergeld-Hammer trifft „Arbeitsverweigerer“ und „Terminverweigerer“: Das sind die Eskalationsstufen 21.02.2026

Germany's Bundestag is advancing a reform to the Bürgergeld (citizen's income) system, aiming to increase accountability for recipients by prioritizing immediate job placement over further training. This new framework introduces stricter sanctions for those who miss appointments or refuse job offers, with clear escalation stages designed to pressure recipients into compliance. Previously, sanctions for missed appointments were limited to a 10% reduction for one month. The proposed changes allow for more severe penalties, including a 30% reduction for repeated missed appointments and a two-month suspension of benefits for refusing a suitable job offer, provided the offer is still available. These measures are intended to make the system more effective and practical, addressing concerns about recipients avoiding their obligations.
