Bürgergeld-Hammer trifft „Arbeitsverweigerer“ und „Terminverweigerer“: Das sind die Eskalationsstufen 22.02.2026

The German Bundestag is working on a reform of basic social security, aiming to strengthen accountability for Bürgergeld recipients. The proposed changes introduce stricter sanctions for those who miss appointments or refuse job offers, shifting the focus from training to immediate employment. The new system outlines clear escalation levels for "appointment refusers," starting with re-invitations and potentially leading to benefit termination, which would require a new application. For job refusals, particularly when work is immediately and willingly declined, benefits can be suspended for two months, with a review after one month. These measures are intended to make existing "work refuser" regulations more effective, addressing a low number of full sanctions previously due to high legal hurdles.
