Bumper crop of Singapore acts travelling to festivals and fringes abroad despite rising costs 03.06.2026

Despite rising touring costs and diminishing funding, a notable number of Singaporean artists are successfully showcasing their work internationally. Productions like "Berahi: Holy Unions" are premiering in Hong Kong's #Danceless Complex Festival, while Shaifulbahri Mohamad’s "Noraebang Diplomacy" will debut at the Seoul Marginal Theatre Festival in September 2026. How Drama's "Big Brown Girl" is featured at Hong Kong's WestK Cabaret Festival, and Nine Years Theatre's "Waiting For Audience" is slated for the Festival Off Avignon. Singapore's presence at the Edinburgh Fringe is being managed with a leaner budget, focusing on artist connections, with acts like Apsaras Arts Dance Company’s "Agathi" and Cheeyang Ng’s "Legendary" participating. Jo Tan's work, after Edinburgh, has led to commissions at the Sydney Fringe Festival.
