The Cairo Economic Court issued a ruling on Tuesday requiring Uber Egypt to pay EGP 10 million in compensation to the family of Habiba El-Shamaa, who died in a tragic incident in February 2024. The lawsuit had been filed against both Uber Egypt and its US-based parent company Uber Inc., but the court dismissed the claim against the latter on procedural grounds, holding only the local entity liable for the damages.
