Cambodian PM meets with Chinese foreign minister, defense minister 23.04.2026

Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet met with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi and Defense Minister Dong Jun in Phnom Penh on April 22, 2026, to strengthen bilateral ties and cooperation. This meeting marked the first "2+2" strategic dialogue between the foreign and defense ministers of China and Cambodia. Prime Minister Hun Manet reiterated Cambodia's commitment to a friendly policy towards China and the one-China principle, expressing interest in expanding cooperation in clean energy, agriculture, infrastructure, and talent cultivation, while also welcoming Chinese investment and vowing to combat online gambling and telecom fraud. Chinese officials emphasized the importance of solidarity in a volatile global environment, pledging to deepen strategic trust and promote comprehensive cooperation, including the development of the "Industrial Development Corridor" and the "Fish and Rice Corridor." The leaders also discussed Cambodia's border conflict with Thailand, with China offering to facilitate peace talks.
