Canada reaches deal with Quebec on billions of dollars in infrastructure funding 02.06.2026

Prime Minister Mark Carney announced a significant infrastructure funding deal between the federal government and Quebec on Tuesday in Longueuil, Quebec. Over the next ten years, Quebec will receive nearly $10 billion for various projects, including new hospitals, public transit, and higher education facilities. Specifically, Quebec is allocated almost $6 billion from the public transit fund, exceeding 25% of Ottawa's total allocation for such projects, which is expected to advance initiatives like the Quebec City tramway. Additionally, approximately $1 million by 2028-29 is earmarked for hospital renovations and expansions, alongside $2.7 billion for higher education and $400 million for electrifying public transit fleets. Quebec Premier Christine Fréchette expressed satisfaction, stating Quebec is receiving its fair, if not more than fair, share of federal investment.
