Candelaria Sanctuary resumes masses, but Sacred Heart Church keeps them suspended 05.07.2026

Following the earthquakes that occurred on June 24, the Candelaria Sanctuary in Caracas resumed its religious activities this Saturday, July 4, attracting hundreds of parishioners seeking solace. The rector, Father Gerardino Barracchini, reported that the temple reopened following inspections by Civil Protection, although with restrictions on the main entrance and the chapel of San José Gregorio Hernández due to damage to the dome and the fall of a four-meter cross. In contrast, the Sacred Heart of Jesus Church is keeping its masses suspended indefinitely due to structural damage to the altar and the roof. Currently, this site is functioning as a collection center for supplies for affected families. Meanwhile, the official report states 2,954 deaths and more than 83,000 families assisted following the earthquakes.
