Caulfield told to seal Dees deal on racecourse relocation 04.06.2026

The Melbourne Football Club is nearing a critical deadline to prove it can fund its proposed $100 million relocation to Caulfield Racecourse, with the Caulfield Racecourse Reserve Trust demanding a business case by June 30. This ambitious project, first floated in 2023, aims to create a unified club precinct for both men's and women's AFL and VFL programs, featuring an indoor training centre and multi-use fields. Despite initial setbacks and the departure of CEO Paul Guerra, who failed to meet with relevant ministers, the club has secured verbal support from state ministers Steve Dimopoulos and Enver Erdogan. However, the project still requires significant state and potentially federal funding, and faces opposition from the Melbourne Racing Club (MRC), which has proposed its own alternative plan. Key points of contention include the method of constructing a new tunnel beneath the racetrack, which could disrupt racing for up to 12 months.
