Chicken crisis expected to last through the year – import needs doubled 03.07.2026

The chicken crisis in Norway is expected to last until the end of the year, and the shortage of Norwegian chicken meat will be greater than previously assumed. According to Nationen, the Norwegian Agriculture Agency has significantly upwardly revised the estimate for import needs. In June, the tariff on chicken was cut from 48.40 NOK to 10 NOK for the first time, as a result of a salmonella outbreak that has created a shortage of hatching eggs and day-old broiler chickens. The industry has been unable to meet demand with Norwegian products.
