China is building an early warning system to detect asteroids that could potentially collide with Earth, according to Li Mingtao, chief scientist at the asteroid monitoring and early-warning research center under the China National Space Administration. The system will combine multiple large-aperture optical telescopes on the ground with a constellation of satellites in orbit, as reported by state-run Science and Technology Daily on June 30, International Asteroid Day.
